Doris (Honey) McConnell Greenwood of Dunwoody, GA passed away at the age of 87 on January 15, 2014. She was born in Marble, NC on August 10, 1926 and grew up in Andrews, NC where she completed High School and met her husband of 44 years, John Earle Greenwood, Jr. Doris lived in many places during her early years of marriage due to her husband working with the railroad and being assigned to places like Virginia, Alabama, NC, SC and Georgia. They eventually settled in Dunwoody, GA and Doris lived there until her death. Doris worked with Kimberly Clark for many years and then successfully moved into real estate where she made the Million Dollar Club several years during her career. She was a wonderful salesperson, very dedicated to her customers and with her winning personality made sure everyone she sold a house to was happy with their choice. She had many repeat customers during her real estate career and won numerous awards. Doris loved to sing and participated in the Choirs at Dunwoody Baptist Church as well as the Barbershop group, Sweet Adelines. The Sweet Adelines won many contests and participated in several national events. Doris sang bass and the family always teased her about the song that states "Momma sang bass". Doris also loved to travel and visited over 20 countries in her travels. She traveled with the "Friendship Force" for several years and saw many exotic countries, like Russia and China. Doris had many friends from all of these groups. Doris was a member of the Dunwoody Baptist Church and a member of the Sunday School Winsome Class, where she participated in many programs and had so many friends, they are too numerous to name. Doris lived her life to the fullest and was a very independent person. She could entertain you with her singing and make you laugh at her jokes. She was an expert at telling jokes and had so many friends that her phone stayed busy every day. Doris also had a big heart and supported several charities. She volunteered with the Ronald McDonald House and donated a room for the charity.

 

Doris was preceded in death by her husband, John Earle Greenwood, Jr., her parents, Fred L. McConnell, Sr. and Artie West McConnell, and her oldest son Lynn Greenwood.

 

She is survived by her sons, John Earle Greenwood, III of Covington, Mike Greenwood (Martha) of Birmingham. AL and Bill Greenwood (Teresa) of Conyers, GA; three grandchildren, Tara Perry (Heath), Daniel Greenwood (Wendy) and John Greenwood (Jenny); six great grandchildren, Will, Allison, Cole, Audra, Carson and Cash; two step grandchildren, Leah and Leslie; and three step great grandchildren, Tyler, Tanner and Levi.

 

Funeral services were held at Sandy Springs Chapel at 3 p.m. on Saturday January 18, 2014. 

 

The family received friends Saturday from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m at Sandy Springs Chapel.

 

Interment was at 2:00 PM Sunday, January 19, 2014 in the Valleytown Cemetery.
