Herbert M. Collett was called home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, Nov. 4, 2009. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather.

Herbert served in the United States Army during World War II because he felt the call to protect this country he loved.

He worked construction work most of his life and lived in many areas of the country during this time but always called Andrews home. As he got older, his daughter begged him to move closer to her but he stated, “I’m not going anywhere I can’t see my mountains.” He loved Andrews and its people all his life.

He was a member of the Andrews Masonic Lodge No. 529; Scottish Rite Valley of Asheville; and Alhambra Temple Chattanooga, TN.

He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. He was kind, loving, and had a great love of family and country.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Jim and Beulah Collett; his son, David Lyle Collett; his sister, Mabel Wakefield; granddaughter, Barbara Holloway; and son-in-law, William Deal.

He is survived by his loving wife, Hazel Ledford Collett; his daughter, Joy
Collett Deal of Minnesott Beach, NC; six granddaughters, Vickie Deal, Donna Levi, Lori Metzner, Debbie Thilenius, Tammy Bagley, and Erma Collett; and one grandson, Chris Collett.  He also has fifteen great grandchildren. Herbert was blessed with numerous nieces and nephews. One who has been like a daughter for many years is Sally Bailey of Andrews.

Funeral services were held at 11:00 AM Saturday, Nov. 7 in the Chapel of Ivie Funeral Home, Andrews with the Rev. Homer Wilson officiating. Interment was in Valleytown Cemetery with masonic graveside rites conducted by the Andrews Masonic Lodge No. 529.  Masons served as pallbearers.

The family received friends from 9:30-10:45 Saturday morning at the Ivie Funeral Home, Andrews prior to the services.

The family requests memorials be made in memory of Herbert M. Collett to the charity of your choice.

Ivie Funeral Home, Andrews in charge of all arrangements.
