Jack Ledford, 89, of Andrews died Wednesday, November 4, 2009 in an Andrews care center. He was a native and lifetime resident of Cherokee County. He was a veteran of WWII, serving in the United States Army Air Force in the European Theatre. Jack was a Purple Heart recipient. He had worked for Berkshire, Magnavox, Baker Furniture, and Burlington Industries. He also worked as a self-employed painter and floor refinisher. He was the oldest member of the Andrews United Methodist Church and was a retired member of the Andrews Volunteer Fire Department. Jack was an avid hunter and fisherman.
He was the son of the late Lush and Hattie Bryson Ledford and was also preceded in death by a brother, Billy Ledford.
Surviving are his wife of 63 years, Emogene Hall Ledford; a son, Jackie Ledford and wife, Darlene of Andrews; a sister, Susie Walsh of Goldsboro, NC; a brother, James Ledford of Toccoa, GA; two grandchildren, Alex and Daniel Ledford; a step granddaughter, Stephanie Hubbert; an aunt, Margie Bryson West of Marble; and a special godchild, Sherry Renfro of Jefferson City, TN.
A memorial service was held at 12 PM Friday, November 6, 2009 in the Andrews United Methodist Church with the Rev. Harry Hawk officiating.
The family received friends from 10:30-11:45 Friday morning at the Andrews United Methodist Church prior to the service.
The family requests memorials be made in memory of Jack Ledford to the Andrews United Methodist Church Building Fund, P.O. Drawer 1310, Andrews, NC 28901.
