William Rondall Mason, 70, of Andrews passed away Monday, August 28, 2017 at his residence. He was a native of Sweetwater, Tennessee, but lived in Andrews for the past 30 years. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War, serving in the United States Army as a sergeant in the 9th infantry. He was a self-employed truck driver, having retired in 1997.
Ron loved his country and his family whole heartily. He was a great father. He also loved Yahweh and studied the Bible all the time.
He was the son of the late William Thomas and Veatrice Fern Maggard Mason. He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Charles and Douglas Mason.
Surviving are his wife, Mary Sue Mason; two daughters, Ronda Shields and husband, Dale of Rutherfordton, North Carolina and Juanita Phillips of Andrews; a sister, Betty Brown of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina; and five grandchildren, Evan Crisp of Murphy, Brittany Goolsby, Mason Shields, and Austin Shields, all of Rutherfordton, and Emily Phillips of Andrews.
A private service was held at Valleytown Cemetery with military graveside rites conducted by the Andrews VFW Post 7620 and with Elder Alan Mansanger officiating. Pallbearers were Jerry Lequire, Russell Crisp, Johnny Wilson, Brandon Allen, and Jesse and Michael Yelton.
