Mary Ruth Webb Garner, 92, of Valdese, passed away on Saturday, February 24, 2018, following a period of declining health.
Mary Ruth was born on November 18, 1925 in Cherokee County to the late William Grady Webb and Mae Luther Webb. She was a graduate of Western Carolina University and retired from Burke County Public Schools where she served as a teacher for 35 years. Mary Ruth was also a longtime member of the First United Methodist Church of Valdese.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Jack Newton Garner Sr. as well as her son, Jack Newton Garner Jr.
Survivors include her three daughters, Carolyn Holt and husband, Richard of Hickory, Pamela Brown and husband, Shawn of Valdese, and Terry Kramer and husband, Don of Morganton; two brothers, Gene Webb of Andrews, and Sam Webb and wife, Bitsy of Andrews; and one sister, Ann Webb Vaught of Andrews. Also surviving are five grandsons, Alex Hicks, Cody Holt, Jonathan Holt, David Holden, and Keith Holden; three granddaughters, Candace Williams, Brittany Brown, and Cierra Brown; an honorary granddaughter, Michelle Wellman; and a number of great-grandchildren.
Inurnment was held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, March 25, 2018 at Valleytown Cemetery in Andrews.
