Jay Tee Nicely, Sr., 82, of Hayesville died Friday, February 13, 2004 at his residence. A native of White County, GA, he had lived in Clay County since 1948. He was the son of the late Edward and Lessie Winn Nicely and the husband of the late Pauline Corn Nicely, who died March 3, 2003. Jay Tee was a veteran of WWII serving in the US Army. He retired as a grounds keeper with Chatuge Shores Golf Course and was a member and deacon of Fort Hembree Baptist Church.
Surviving are two sons, Jay Tee Nicely, Jr. and Charles Lloyd both of Murphy; one sister, Estee Corn of Clearwater, FL; three brothers, Jessie James Nicely of Sautee, GA, Clifford Nicely of Cleveland, GA, and Calvin Nicely of Clarkesville, GA; and five grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 2:00 PM Monday, February 16 in the Chapel of the Ivie Funeral Home, Hayesville with the Revs. Alfred Hampton and Theodore Kelly officiating. Burial was in the Herbert Cemetery with military graveside rites conducted by the Hayesville VFW Post 6812 (Allison-Bristol), American Legion Post #96, DAV Chapter #73, and VFW Post 10222. Pallbearers: Kent Dorsey, Billy Lloyd, Justin Blackwell, Dwight McClure, and Eddie and Kevin Nicely. Joe Dorsey served as honorary pallbearer.
The family received friends from 6-8 Sunday evening at the Ivie Funeral Home, Hayesville.
