Warren Waters, 83, of Nantahala died Thursday, June 24, 2004 at his residence. A native and lifelong resident of Macon County, he was the son of the late Samuel Jackson and Emma Cope Waters and the husband of the late Lillian Jacobs Waters, who died Oct. 6, 2001. He was a veteran of WWII, serving in the US Army in the Middle East and the African and European Theatres. He was awarded the Purple Heart with Oak Leaf Cluster and was a recepient of the Bronze Star Medal. He was a member and deacon of the Aquone Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Florence Daves and a brother, Dewey Waters.

Surviving are a daughter, Barbara Baldwin and husband, Richard of Nantahala; two sons, Larry Waters and Mike Waters and wife, Patty all of Nantahala; three sisters, Faye Kopera of Murphy, Arlisa Taughinbaugh of St. Clair, MI, and Arlene May of Marlette, MI; four brothers, Lawton Waters of Berkley, MI, Dwight Waters of Nantahala, Coolidge Waters of Almont, MI, and Rev. S.J. Waters of Nantahala; and six grandchildren, six great grandchildren, and two step-great grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at 3:00 PM Sunday, June 27 in the Aquone Baptist Church with the Revs. Andy Cloer, Roy Lindsay, and David Postell officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery with military graveside rites conducted by the Andrews VFW Post 7620. Pallbearers were Jerry Owenby, Hal Jacobs, Johnny Stroud, Scott Ramsey, Samuel Waters, and Tom Baldwin.

The family received friends from 6-8 Saturday evening at the Ivie Funeral Home, Andrews where the body was until placed in the church one hour prior to the services.
