Calvin Coolidge Douthit, 77, of the Nantahala community, Topton died Saturday, October 9, 2004 at his residence. A native of Macon County, he was the son of the late George Washington and Eula Jane Cochran Douthit. He was a master carpenter in the house building industry and was a member of the Briartown Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by five brothers.
Surviving are his wife of 56 years, Ella Mae Passmore Douthit; a daughter, Delores Williams and her husband, Joe of Nantahala; a son, Mike Douthit of Nantahala; three grandsons and four great grandchildren; and an aunt, Blanche Franklin of Franklin, NC.
Funeral services were held at 1:00 Tuesday afternoon, October 12 in the Briartown Baptist Church with Revs. Larry Icenhower and S.J. Waters officiating. Interment was in the church cemetery. Pallbearers were Scott Cope, Doug Derreberry, Mike Franklin, Neal Woody, Steve Riley, and Shane Gregory. Johnny, Israel, and Jack Derreberry, and Charlie Callicut served as honorary pallbearers.
The family received friends from 6:00-8:00 Monday evening, October 11 at the Ivie Funeral Home, Andrews where the body was until placed in the church 30 minutes prior to the services.
