Jason Reece Joyce, 34, of San Antonio, TX died Wednesday, March 17, 2010 in a San Antonio hospital. A native of Paducah, KY, he had been living in San Antonio. Jason was a 1994 graduate of Reidland High School and was a 2002 graduate of Murray State University, where he held a B.S. degree in chemistry and a Masters degree in industrial safety and health. He was a senior research scientist at Southwest Research Institute of San Antonio. He was a certified industrial hygienist and a certified hazardous materials manager. He was of the Baptist faith.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, D.F. “Pete” Joyce, Ella Mae Joyce, and Euin F. Edwards.
Surviving are his wife, Lecosta “Julie” Woody Joyce; a daughter, Abby Reece Joyce of the home; an unborn child, Baby Joyce, due in July; his parents, William and Teresa Edwards Joyce of Paducah; a sister, Krystal Erin Joyce Tyree and husband, Chris of Paducah; his maternal grandmother, Pearline Edwards of Paducah; and two nephews and several aunts and uncles.
Graveside services were held at 11:00 AM Saturday, March 27 in the Hayesville Baptist-Presbyterian Cemetery with Rev. Chris Rumfelt officiating. Pallbearers were Matthew, Sam, and Steven Hines, Chris Tyree, Anthony Woody, Terry Wood, Bobby Puckett, and Emitt Arrowood.
The family gathered at the Freewill Baptist Church following the service.
A fund has been established by the Southwest Research Institute for Jason’s children. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made in memory of Jason Reece Joyce to The Joyce Family, c/o Southwest Research Center Federal Credit Union, 220 Culebra Road, San Antonio, TX 78238.
