John Porter Gilbert Jr., 81, of Andrews died Sunday, January 9, 2011 at his residence.  He was a native of Polk County, FL, but had lived in Jupiter, FL before moving to Andrews in 2009.  John had served in the United States Air Force from 1949 to 1961.  He was an accountant and worked as an auditor for the Florida Conference of the Seventh Day Adventist before retiring.  He was an active woodworker and a member and prior president of the Central Florida Woodworkers Guild.  He was a member of the Andrews Seventh Day Adventist Church.

He was the son of the late John Porter Sr. and Eva Carter Gilbert and husband of the late Betty Perry Gilbert, who died December 2002 and Marianne Bayless Gilbert, who died July 2009.  He was also preceded in death by a sister, Myrtle Green; and brother, Calvin Gilbert.

Surviving are a daughter, Patricia G. Davis of Maitland, FL; two sons, Mark A. Gilbert and wife, Pat of Andrews and Kenneth Gilbert and wife, Karen of Longwood, FL; three sisters, Eva Knight and Dorothy Raciti both of Orlando, FL, and Grace Gideon of Corpus Christi, TX; and eight grandchildren.

A memorial service was held at 5:00 PM Saturday, January 22, 2011 at the Andrews Seventh Day Adventist Church.
