Rev. Oscar W. Passmore, 93, of Nantahala died Tuesday, October 18, 2011. He was a native and lifetime resident of Macon County. Oscar had served in the United States Navy during WWII in the Pacific Theatre. He was a farmer and a member of the Union Hill Baptist Church.

He was the son of the late Thomas B. and Roxie Owenby Passmore and the husband of the late Blanch Ruth Mason Passmore, who died Oct. 3, 2009.

Surviving are three daughters, Delma Jean Postell and Donna Passmore Reid both of Andrews, and Sue Bush and husband, Skip of Mills River, NC; six sons, Tommy D. Passmore and wife, Ruby of Acworth, GA, Jackie D. Passmore and wife, Pat, James Passmore and wife, Tracey, Earl Passmore and wife, Willa Mae, and Donnie Passmore all of Nantahala, and Jerry Passmore and wife, Sheri of Canton, GA; and 24 grandchildren and 26 great grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at 11:00 AM Friday, October 21, 2011 in the Union Hill Baptist Church with the Revs. Paul Richards and S.J. Waters officiating. Interment was in the church cemetery with military graveside rites conducted by the Andrews VFW Post 7620 and the NC National Guard.  Pallbearers were Shane, David, Chris, Jeremy, and Woody Passmore, and Jacob Reid.  Honorary pallbearers were Stephen and Charles Neal, and Phillip and Felix Passmore.

The family received friends from 6-8 Thursday evening at the Ivie Funeral Home, Andrews where the body was until placed in the church 30 minutes prior to the services.

The family requests memorials be made in memory of Oscar W. Passmore to the Union Hill Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, c/o Earl Passmore, 71 Passmore Road, Topton, NC 28781.
