Larry McNabb, 67, of Hiwassee Dam Community died Thursday, September 13, 2012 at his residence. He was a native and lifetime resident of Cherokee County. Larry was owner and operator of McNabb Air Conditioning Service. He was a charter member of the Hiwassee Dam Fire Department and served as chief from 1983-2007. He was a 40 year member of the Cherokee County Rescue Squad and had served on the Cherokee County Board of Education for 12 years. He was a member of Friendship Baptist Church. Larry took great pride in maintaining his farm.
He was the son of the late Guy William and Leora Hickey McNabb.
Surviving is his wife of 43 years, Glenda Roberson McNabb; two sons, Chad McNabb and wife April and Daniel McNabb and wife Pamela, all of Murphy; two sisters, Sarah Swain and husband Joe and Linda Payne and husband Ronnie, all of Murphy; five grandchildren who he loved dearly, Taylor, Jonathan, Payton, Olivia, and Avery; and three special nephews, Josh, Caine, and Zachary Matheson.
Funeral services were held at 3:00 PM Sunday, September 16, 2012 in the Hiwassee Dam High School Gymnasium with Rev. Steve Ware, Rev. John Coleman, and Michael Starks officiating. Interment was in Friendship Baptist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers were Caine and Zachary Matheson, David Payne, Jeff Swain, Stanley Graham, and Kevin Carter. Honorary pallbearers were the Hiwassee Dam Fire Department, Cherokee County Rescue Squad, Jason Cutshaw, and Josh Matheson.
The family received friends from 5-8 Saturday evening at the Ivie Funeral Home, Murphy, where the body was until placed in the gym 30 minutes prior to the services.
