Welcome
A funeral service is a celebration of a person who lived, loved, and laughed. Their funeral service should be as individual as they were in life. Pat & Grier Ivie along with their son, John Ivie, & staff of Ivie Funeral Home are here to serve you, one family at a time, 24 hours a day. The Ivie family is proud to be continuously family owned and operated for more than 75 years. Please contact us anytime.
Peyton and Edythe G. Ivie founded Ivie Funeral Home February 19, 1934 to serve the Cherokee and Clay County communities. After three years of operating Ivie Funeral Home from Regal Hotel, Peyton built a funeral home on Valley River Avenue to provide a better facility for funeral ceremonies.
In 1939, Peyton purchased the Frank Herbert property in Hayesville and built a funeral home for the Clay County residents. In 1946, Peyton purchased the Forsythe-Watkins Funeral Home in Andrews on Cherry Street.
Peyton G. Ivie died June 16, 1990 and Edythe Grier Ivie died November 11, 2000 after a lifetime of service to the community. Peyton donated much of his time to serving the community through organizations such as the Murphy Lions Club, Western North Carolina Baptist Association, Cherokee County School Board, and Meredith College, Mars Hill College, and Wake Forest University Board of Trustees. He was also a Sunday School teacher, trustee, and deacon at Murphy First Baptist Church.
Grier and Pat Ivie began working in the family business in 1973. In 1993, Grier completed construction of Ivie Funeral Home on Peachtree Street in Murphy. Extensive remodeling was completed in Andrews in 2000 and Hayesville in 2002. Ivie Funeral Home received an invitation to become a member of Selected Independent Funeral Homes, which is an organization for the most professional, family-owned funeral homes.
Ivie Funeral Home is a third generation family owned and operated funeral home. John Ivie joined his father, Grier, in 2006. The Ivie family has served the community for generations. As traditions change, Ivie Funeral Home will be here to guide and direct your family through the hardships of losing a loved one.
