I was fortunate enough to work with Mr. Cross for two years at Andrews Middle. I was a new teacher, and Mr. Cross was a model of professionalism and work ethic for me to emulate. After I transferred to a different school, I would often run into Mr. Cross in town. He was always the same: friendly and supportive of my career and of me as a person. He was a great man and a great educator, a true asset to Cherokee County.

Nancy... and other family members, My heartfelt sympathy in your loss. May God bring peace and acceptance. I remember him as your little brother, Nancy, and have enjoyed some of his posts on FB as we had mutual friends. He obviously grew up to be a much loved, respected and successful gentleman and Child of God. Memories of the beautiful, intelligent and popular vivacious little blond we all looked up to at NHS have lain gently on my mind over the past 50 years. My best to you and yours at this sad time. God bless. Sally

I had the privilege of teaching with Gary at Nantahala School in the late '70's and early 80's. He was one of the truest gentlemen I've ever known, and a true son of the community choosing to return home to give of his time and talents. His quiet dignity, sense of humor, and sense of honor will be a true loss for all. Our heartfelt sympathy goes out to Janet, Maggie, and Lindsay, and all others who will miss this good man so much.

What a loss. Gary was truly one of a kind. I coached against him and officiated many of his games and can say that I never heard a harsh word come out of his mouth. He was a true gentleman in every way. He will be missed by many and it is a shame that we don't have many other coaches, and people, like him. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family during this difficult time.
