Gail Nichols, 57, of Young Harris, GA passed away unexpectedly Friday, March 21, 2014 in a Fulton County hospital.  She was a native of Hiwassee Dam, but had lived in the Hayesville and Young Harris areas for the past 25 years. She was a graduate of Hiwassee Dam, graduating in 1974, and graduating Tri-County Community College with an Associate of Science Degree in 1976. She had been employed by Tri-County Community College, Nichols Appraisal, working beside her husband, and retired as a bookkeeper from Hayesville High School. She was a member of Mount Pleasant Baptist Church in Hayesville. Gail was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. Her hobby was the loving support she gave to all her family.

 

She was the daughter of the late Don and Gertha Farmer Taylor. She was also preceded in death by her son, Justin Nichols.

 

Surviving are her husband, Tommy Nichols; three daughters, Kristyn Holland and husband, Reggie of Franklin, NC, Lauren Dickey Payne and husband, Jeremy of Murphy, and Penny Nichols Perlock and husband, Ray of Alpharetta, GA;  five grandchildren, Kendyl Reece Holland, Zeke Allen Payne, Cory Cox, and Nicholas and Tyler Perlock;  two sisters, Grace Taylor Carringer and husband, Lyle, and Glenda Taylor Helton and husband, Don, all of Murphy;  five nieces and nephews;  and nine great nieces and nephews.

 

Funeral services were held at 6:00 PM Tuesday, March 25, 2014 at Mount Pleasant Baptist Church with Revs. Chad Chandler and Keith Nuckolls officiating. Interment was in the Oak Forest United Methodist Church Cemetery with a private family graveside service. Pallbearers were members of the Hiawassee River Bass Club.

 

The family received friends from 4:00-5:45 PM Tuesday evening at the Mount Pleasant Baptist Church prior to the services.

 

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made in loving memory of Gail Nichols to the Justin Nichols Memorial Scholarship Fund, 622 NC Hwy 69, Hayesville, NC 28904.

 

Ivie Funeral Home, Hayesville in charge of all arrangements.
