Maxine Koos, 92, of Hayesville died Tuesday, April 8, 2014. She was a native of Detroit, Michigan, but had lived in many areas of the country before moving to Clay County in 1971. She was a veteran of WWII, serving in the United States Navy. She taught mathematics, physics, and chemistry in high schools in Florida and Midway Island. For several years, Maxine worked as a mathematician for the civil service. She retired from the North Carolina Employment Security Commission. She was a member of the Hayesville First United Methodist Church.

 

She was the daughter of the late John and Sarah Wood Proos and the wife of the late Edwin M. Koos, who died July 10, 1998. She was also preceded in death by three brothers.

 

Surviving are her daughter, Mary Anne Koos of Hayesville; and a son, Randall M. Koos.

 

A memorial service was held at 1:00 PM Saturday, April 26, 2014 in the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd in Hayesville with Father William Breedlove officiating.

 

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made in memory of Maxine Koos to the Hayesville First United Methodist Church, PO Box 85, Hayesville, NC 28904.
