Shirley Madden, 93, of Murphy passed away Sunday, June 29, 2014 in a Murphy care center. She was a native of Beaver, Wisconsin. Shirley had lived in Ruskin, Florida before moving to Murphy in 1977. Shirley had graduated from the University of Wisconsin, Osh Kosh. She had worked at Oak Creek Franklin School District for 13 years as a teacher. She was a published poet in the Treasured Poems of America Fall 1990. She had been president of the AARP, Cherokee County, past president of American Association of University Women, secretary of Ranger Community Club, and past president of Murphy Singles Club. She was very active in the Girl Scouts of America. Shirley had attended Murphy Presbyterian Church.
She was the daughter of the late Clinton William and Mabel Angeline Holtslander Bennett, and the wife of the late Ralph William Madden, who died in 1984. She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Constance Marie Madden; two great granddaughters, Allison and Abbigail Fuller and their father, Bryan Fuller; a sister, Myrtle Oakes; three brothers, Glenn Bennett, Clyde Bennett, and Harold “Bud” Bennett; and a son-in-law, Gilbert Dietz.
Surviving are a daughter, Jane Madden Dietz of Marion, Wisconsin; two sons, William C. Madden and wife, Connie of Tampa, Florida, and Don Michael Madden of Andrews; two sisters, Elnora Kloppman of Weschester, Illinois, and Jane Fisher of Reedsburg, Wisconsin; one brother, Darrold Bennett of Reedsburg; five grandchildren, Jeff, Kristin and husband, Andy, Lori, Jennifer, and Michael; and eight great grandchildren, Chloe, Trapper, Cali, Mariah, Austin, Serena, Sydney, and Will.
Funeral services were held at 2:00 PM Monday, July 7, 2014 in the Chapel of Ivie Funeral Home, Murphy with the Rev. Mike Moreau officiating. Graveside services were held at 11:00 AM Wednesday, July 9, 2014 in the Sunset Memory Gardens in Thonotosassa, Florida.
The family received friends from 1-1:45 Monday afternoon at the Ivie Funeral Home, Murphy prior to the services.
