Doris M. Kenney, 90, of Murphy died Monday, December 15, 2014 at her residence. Doris was a native of Tuscaloosa, Alabama.
Mrs. Kenney was a graduate of the University of Alabama and taught Home Economics in Mobile, Alabama, Richmond, Virginia, and Lake Worth, Florida.
Mrs. Kenney was an avid bridge player and a huge Bama fan.
Mrs. Kenney was a founding member and a long-time volunteer of the Cherokee County Sharing Center, and a member of Shepherd of the Mountains Church.
Mrs. Kenney has touched many lives during her long and productive lifetime, and she is fondly remembered as a devoted teacher, wife, mother, grandmother, and friend; demonstrating in countless ways her dedication to her family and to their welfare, and also to countless others throughout her community.
She was the daughter of the late Rufus and Nell Mallett and the wife of the late Joseph Bartlett Kenney Jr., who died May 7, 2006. She was also preceded in death by a sister, Madge Mallett.
Surviving are a daughter, Ginger G. Kenney of Senoia, Georgia; a son, Gary R. Kenney of Murphy; and two grandchildren, Nathan B. Kenney and Erin M. Kenney.

A graveside service was held at 4:00 PM Thursday, December 18, 2014 at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Al Beck officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made in memory of Doris M. Kenney to The Sharing Center, PO Box 692, Murphy, NC 28906.

Your mother was a great bridge player, but she was also patient with people like me who hadn't played in 40 years and was pulled in to fill a table. That was especially endearing. You have my deepest sympathy in your loss.
