Janet West, 83, of Andrews died Wednesday, April 15, 2015 in an Andrews care facility. She was a native and lifetime resident of Cherokee County. Janet had worked for Berkshire and the Lee Company. She was a member of Valleytown Baptist Church.

 

She was the daughter of the late James Otis and Nellie Louise Grindstaff Phillips and the wife of the late Orland West, who died January 1, 2012. She was also preceded in death by two sisters, Jean Thompson and Clara Joann Lackey; and a brother, Cecil Phillips.

 

Surviving are four daughters, Vicky Bentley, Patricia Frazier, and Melba Diane Painter all of Andrews, and Marilyn Garland of Murphy; a step-daughter, Mary Beth Helms of Stanley, North Carolina; three sisters, Jane Phillips of Andrews, Violet Hembree of Charleston, South Carolina, and Geneva Conley of Asheville; a brother, Eddie Phillips of Andrews; and seven grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren, and four great great grandchildren.

 

Funeral services were held at 2:00 PM Sunday, April 19, 2015 in the Valleytown Baptist Church with the Revs. Danny Monroe and Ralph Barnard officiating. The interment was in Valleytown Cemetery. Pallbearers were Brandon Grant, David Radford, Gary and Charles Frazier, and Roy and Ray West.

 

The family received friends from 1-1:50 Sunday afternoon at the Valleytown Baptist Church prior to the services.

 

The family requests memorials be made in memory of Janet West to the Valleytown Cemetery Fund, City Hall, PO Box 1210, Andrews, NC 28901.

Dear Vicky and family,
