Carrie Belle Nelson, age 99, of Royston, Georgia, formerly of Hayesville, died Sunday, June 26, 2016 in a Lavonia, Georgia hospital. She was a native of Clay County, but had been living in Royston since 2012. She had worked for Moss Memorial Library and was a member of the Chatuge Hills Assembly of God Church.
She was the daughter of the late J.V. and Sarah Emma Sellers Moore and the wife of the late Thurman Francis Nelson, who died September 26, 2004. She was also preceded in death by a grandson, Jonathan Ayers.
Surviving are three daughters, Janet Eller and Penny McClure both of Murphy, and Abigail Hammond of Royston, Georgia; three sons, R.L. Nelson and Roald Nelson both of Hayesville, and John O. Nelson of Royston, Georgia; a sister, Blanche Hogsed of Hiawassee, Georgia; and ten grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren, and eight great great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 11:00 am Thursday, June 30, 2016 in the Chapel of Ivie Funeral Home, Hayesville with Revs. Aline Mosteller and Rob Sizemore officiating. The interment was in Union Hill Cemetery. Pallbearers were Austin Floyd, Thurman Eller, Hunter Rice, Brandon Chastain, and Kolton and Rhyan Arrowood.
The family received friends from 6-8 Wednesday evening at the Ivie Funeral Home, Hayesville.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made in memory of Carrie Belle Nelson to the Gideons International, PO Box 164, Murphy, NC 28906.
