Nettie Carter Stroud, 86, of Hayesville died Tuesday, May 25, 2010 at the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Donald Cheeks.
Nettie was a native and lifetime resident of Clay County. She was a devoted homemaker, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She was a devout Christian and was a member of the Shiloh Baptist Church. Over the years, she received great pleasure cooking for her family and friends.
She was the daughter of the late Frank Berton and Alice Owenby Carter and the wife of the late Charlie Stroud, who died Nov. 20, 2000. She was also preceded in death by three brothers, Charlie, Frank, and Paul Carter; two sisters, Annie Mae Matheson and Minnie Stroud; and two infants.
Surviving are a daughter, Linda Cheeks and husband, Donald of Hayesville; a son, Donald Stroud and wife, Margie of Murphy; four grandchildren and ten great grandchildren; and a brother, Willis Carter and wife, Connie of Norcross, GA.
Funeral services were held at 11:00 AM Thursday, May 27 in the Chapel of Ivie Funeral Home, Hayesville with the Rev. Clark Moss officiating. Interment was in Oak Forest United Methodist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers were Tim and Charlie Cheeks, Scott Stroud, Chris Coker, Steve and Larry Sellers, Ronnie Smith, and Mike Carter.
The family received friends from 6-8 Wednesday evening at the Ivie Funeral Home, Hayesville.
The family requests memorials be made in memory of Nettie Carter Stroud to the Shiloh Baptist Church, 1021 Lawrence Smith Road, Hayesville, NC 28904.

I was so sorry to read of Nettie's passing. All I could think of was her shouting when you would sing "Mail Order from Heaven." Well, now she is getting to see that package of Love for real and sit at His feet.
