Donald Ray “Don” Stroud, age 70, of Harrison, TN, died May 11, 2019 at his home.  A native of Hayesville, NC, he was the son of the late Charlie and Nettie Stroud.

 

Don was a devout Christian and a member of Maple Grove Baptist Church.  He loved to teach Sunday school, sing, work out, ride bikes and fish.

 

In 1995, Don retired from Washington, DC as an Army SGM.  He also served in Vietnam in his early career. He was dedicated to serving his country.

 

He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Margie Foster Stroud, a beloved son, Scott Stroud (Kimberly), and two grandchildren, Jacob and Kathryn Stroud, all of Toccoa, one sister, Linda Cheeks (Pete) of Hayesville, and numerous nieces and nephews.

 

Funeral services were held at 5:00 p.m. Saturday, May 18, 2019 at Maple Grove Baptist Church, 9525 Birchwood Pike, Harrison, TN with Revs. Ronnie Dotson and Andy Bell officiating.  Deacons of Maple Grove Baptist Church served as honorary pallbearers.

 

The family received friends Saturday, May 18 from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. at the Maple Grove Baptist Church prior to the services. 

 

A memorial service was held Sunday, May 19, at 3:00 p.m. at Truett Memorial Baptist Church with Rev. Johnny Foster officiating.

 

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in memory of Don to Warriors Veteran Outreach, Attention:  Dan Miller, P.O. Box 134, Murphy, NC, 28906.

I am so sorry to hear about Don’s passing. I knew Charlie and Nettie and the whole family since I was born. Don was such a nice man who served the Lord, our country and was good to all people. I’m sorry to hear of Donald’s passing we went to school together. Went in the Army together taking Basic training at Ft. Bragg starting March 1968. Thoughts and Prayers for for all his Family at this sad and difficult time.

I have known Donald since the first grade. He was always cheerful, friendly and outgoing, Last saw him about 15 years ago (how time does fly). Prayers for your peace and comfort in God's grace. Psalms 116:15.
