Edward Brittain Dickey, 82, of Murphy died Wednesday, Oct. 27, 2010 at his residence.  He was a native and lifelong resident of Murphy. He was owner and operator of Nehi Bottling Company and Dickey Supply Company for 55 years. He was a founding board member of Citizens Bank and was a member of the Woodmen of the World. Ed was a retired member of the Murphy Volunteer Fire Department. He was a lifelong member of the Murphy First United Methodist Church and served on the building committee of the educational building of the church. Ed loved to work on his farm on Upper Bear Paw Road.

He was the son of the late Frank Evans and Gertrude Brittain Dickey.

Surviving are his wife of 65 years, Helen Millsaps Dickey; two sons, Jerry Lynn Dickey and wife, P-Nut and Frank Earl Dickey and wife, Cynthia all of Murphy; a sister, Cora Sue Hubbard and husband, James David of Murphy; six grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren; and a special caregiver and friend, Pat Hawkins.

Funeral services were held at 3:00 PM Friday, Oct. 29 in the Chapel of Ivie Funeral Home, Murphy with the Rev. Al Beck officiating. Interment was in Sunset Cemetery.  Pallbearers were Keith Beaver, Mark Grant, David Hyatt, R.L. Howard, Ethan Dickey, and Tom York. Honorary pallbearers were Marvin Kephart and Tommy Kelly.

The family received friends from 6-8 Thursday evening at the Ivie Funeral Home, Murphy.

The family requests memorials be made in memory of Edward Brittain Dickey to the Murphy Volunteer Fire Department, PO Box 130, Murphy, NC 28906.

Ivie Funeral Home, Murphy in charge of all arrangements.

Soory for the loss of Edward,many good times at the cabin and fishing at the pond and cooking fish, we sure did have alot of fun.It comes a time we have to leave this earth amd one day we will be united again! Thank God for his loan of Edward for a time! We love you!Carl and Regina

You are a trooper. I have been blessed to have been a part of your family, to know you and Ed, and build special memories. I will miss him and his nickname for me, King David, that only Ed could pair with his spirited salute and greeting "You're #1".
