Michael S. Baker, 49, of Murphy died Saturday, March 26, 2011. He was a native of Polk County, FL where he had lived most of his life before moving to Cherokee County in 2003. Michael was owner and operator of Hanging Dog Computer Services. He also volunteered as an instructor and served on the Testing Board of Christian Martial Arts Center. He was of the Christian faith.
Michael was a loving husband, son and friend. His most favorite thing in life was to show his gratitude towards the Creator of us all. He did this in everyday life by working with the kids, spending time with his wife gardening, swinging on the back porch enjoying the view, playing paintball, hiking and riding four-wheelers with friends and family. His love of life and courage in facing death was an inspiration to us all and he will be greatly missed and will never be forgotten.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Mark Baker.
Surviving are his wife, Diane Pellem Baker; his parents, John and Cynthia Newman Balasis of Lakeland, FL; two step-sons; six step-grandchildren; two god-children; and close friends, Ramona Harris, Fremont and Rose Edwards.
A memorial service was held at 6:00 PM Friday, April 15, 2011 at the Episcopal Church of the Messiah at 76 Peachtree Street in downtown Murphy with Rev. Steve Alred and Rev. Dr. Jim Johnson officiating.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been set up, and memorials may be sent to Christian Martial Arts Ministries (a 501(c) 3 not for profit), 56 Valley River Road, Murphy, NC 28906. Proceeds will be used to defray Michael’s medical cost.
Ivie Funeral Home, Murphy is in charge of arrangements.
I was absolutely shocked and saddened to read in our local paper that Michael had died.
I first met Michael when he worked for Cherokee Computer when they had first opened the store.
I had many computer issues back then.
Michael came to my home after he had just opened Hanging Dog Computer Services to check out another computer I had bought. He was professional in every way and I found him to be a very likeable person.
He was always there for me and would talk me through the fixing process over the phone and explain things so I would be better able to understand computer talk.
He loved on my dogs and we talked about his life and family.
He was an all round nice guy, who will be greatly missed, and as you said "never forgotten".
My sincerest sympathies to you and your family.
Peace and Love to you sweet lady at this most difficult time.
But, it was good to know ya. You made it happen, man... your happiness and your outlook. I remember seeing you & Diane downtown one day, in a sunny crosswalk and I was struck how beautiful and shiny you both seemed.
When I worry and waiver in my life, I can see you riding like a maniac down your driveway...aw, just go, man, go!
Love, Peace and Joy.
All of us at Hays, Bius & Walker are thinking of you and wishing you added strength each day. Michael was a wonderful person and will be greatly missed.
