Thomas H. Nugent, 70, of Hayesville died Friday, September 9, 2011 at his residence. He was a native of New York, but had lived in Florida before moving to Clay County in 2000. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War serving in the United States Army. Tom retired after 20 years as an engineer with the FAA at Kennedy Airport. He was of the Christian faith and was a member of the Knights of Columbus.

He was the son of the late Thomas and Hannah Hutter Nugent.

Surviving are his loving Anne; two sons, Thomas H. Nugent Jr. and Michael Nugent; and a sister, Patricia Viviani.

Memorial services were held at 11:00 AM Tuesday, September 13 in the Chapel of Ivie Funeral Home, Hayesville with Rev. Charlie Shelton and Bill Boroski officiating.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made in memory of Thomas H. Nugent to the American Cancer Society, Hayesville Chapter, 120 Executive Park, Building 1, Asheville, NC 28801 or the Valley River Humane Society, 7450 US 19, Marble, NC 28905.

Ivie Funeral Home, Hayesville in charge of all arrangements.

He was a rare one-fondly remembering the 'old days' playing boats in my living room and adventures in life, then puppy 'Happy'. Blessings to you all.

I have lots of good memories of Tom and of our time together working and sailing.
